The reconstruction project on Rustaveli Avenue in central Tbilisi is actively continuing and is designed to last for decades, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze said at today’s meeting of the municipal government.
According to him, the asphalt milling works have now been fully completed.
“Large-scale rehabilitation works on Rustaveli Avenue began on July 23, which resulted in a complete restriction of vehicle traffic. The very next day, the company Georgian Water and Power joined the project and began a full-scale renovation of the outdated water supply and sewage networks. This will significantly improve the avenue’s engineering infrastructure in the future,” Kakha Kaladze said.
According to the Tbilisi mayor, construction of underground cable ducts has also begun on the sidewalks, where electrical cables will later be installed.
“The contractor is actively carrying out the dismantling of existing sidewalk railings, curbs, and other infrastructure elements in order to create spaces that meet modern standards at the next stage. Preparatory works for the reconstruction of underground pedestrian crossings are also being carried out intensively,” Kakha Kaladze noted.
According to him, the relevant teams are working at the site around the clock.
“It should be noted that all works are being carried out simultaneously in several directions, which significantly accelerates the pace of the project. During nighttime hours, collected materials are removed from the site, and new construction materials are delivered so that the movement of heavy vehicles can be limited during the day. We apologize for the inconvenience caused. There is no other way to carry out this type of work,” Kakha Kaladze stated.
